The Zimbabwe Basketball National Championship came to an end today with the Evans Gasva coached Harare City Hornets ladies been crowned CHAMPIONS and Mutare based team Mercenaries been crowned gents CHAMPIONS
The Lady Hornets kicked started their campaign against MSU Hawk whom they defeated 74-15 second game they played Green Stars and they had to sweat for a win with the game ending 37-29 then came Africa University whom they outplayed and defeated winning 88-14 therefore qualifying for the semi finals.
Semi final it was Vixens a team lead by Alexandra Maseko who looked like potential winner only to be defeated 64-44 by Hornets this meaning Hornets would go into the final and they play against Lakers. Hornets Ladies easily defeated the Bulawayo side 68-17 and where crowned as the Zimbabwe Basketball Women National Champions.
In 2018 Zimbabwe Basketball Union disqualified Harare City Hornets Ladies from taking part in the tournament after a red flag was raised by some teams that the club was using a illegal players. Maseko Vixens team played against Green Stars and won by one point in a closely contested game game end 54-53.
In the men’s section Hornet men lostbin the 3rd and 4th play playoff to JBC whilst the final was against Foxes and Mercenaries and it ended 60-75 to Mercenaries
